I don’t know about you, but candids are some of my favorite images. Sure, the pretty portrait of everyone looking at the camera is beautiful, but the ones where the family is snuggling, giving kisses or playing are my absolute favorite. They’re the ones full of magic. As a mom myself, I often catch myself going back to the memories of me rocking my newborn in the nursery, or calming them when they’re fussy — they’re natural and beautiful moments that I treasure. To have them in photographs I can always look back on are even more precious.

When I became a mom of a toddler, I started looking at little toys and items around my house as special and symbolic. For example, my oldest was obsessed with the little baby pumpkins during Halloween that we had about thirty of them at one point — all scattered around the house. I remember rocking him to sleep one night after a long day and looking over to see a baby pumpkin sitting next to his night light, ontop of his favorite book. I instantly started to cry. It’s the little things that spark memories. When my boys want to hold something in family photos, I let them. Because those “things” may be just “things” to us, but they’re so special to our little ones and they’re part of our story. I love that Teddy held Zip (his dragon) in some of his photos with his family because Zip is a part of Teddy’s story. #letthembelittle
